On April 4, 2017, 90-plus art house cinemas across the country will be participating collectively in the NATIONAL EVENT DAY special screening of the movie 1984 starring John Hurt. April 4 was chosen because it is the day George Orwell’s famous protagonist Winston Smith (John Hurt)firsts rebels against his oppressive government in Oceania by keeping a forbidden diary, where he dares to record his disloyal thoughts about Big Brother.
This frightening look at a dystopian society is co-sponsored by the English Dept. and the Film Program at Trinity College.
