(US, 2015) Directed and edited by Ramin Bahrani. Screenplay by Ramin Bahrani and Amir Naderi, based on a story by Bahareh Azimi.
Cast: Michael Shannon, Andrew Garfield, Laura Dern, Noah Lomax.

Movies about working people caught up in a brutal economic system are more often the work of British directors like Ken Loach and Mike Leigh. With 99 Homes, North Carolinian writer/director Ramin Bahrani takes this genre and runs with it, exposing the suspense and pain behind the 2010 Florida real estate crash. Andrew Garfield plays an out-of-work construction worker who gets evicted with his mother (Laura Dern) and son (Noah Lomax), only to be hired by a real estate shark (Michael Shannon) to fix up homes before they are put back on the market. Flipping properties is one thing, but when Shannon’s requests turn criminal, his desperate protègè must decide if getting ahead is worth losing his soul. 112 min.

“This is a film of palpable anger, a finger on the pulse of modern America crafted by a team of rare ability to awaken outrage.” – Colin Covert. Minneapolis Star Tribune.
