(US, 2017) Written and directed by Edgar Wright. Cast: Ansel Elgort, Lily James,
Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Flea.

Inspired by the quirky vibe of the Coen Bros.’ Raising Arizona, Baby Driver is that rare American thriller that cares as much about its characters as it does special effects. Writer/director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) keeps the focus on his main character: a decent kid (played by Ansel Elgort of The Fault in Our Stars) who is swindled into working as a getaway driver for the nefarious Kevin Spacey. What makes him special is a severe case of tinnitus that permanently connects him to earbuds (and music); and his retro romanticism, as he falls for a waitress at a diner (Lily James). Also fun are his criminal cohorts, from a hypermanic Jaimie Foxx, to a debauched – yet still sexy – Jon Hamm. 113 min.
“Put in your metaphorical earbuds, turn the key in the ignition, and enjoy the cinematic highlight of the summer!” – Christopher Orr, the Atlantic.
