Hartford’s alternative holiday event is finally back at Cinestudio in ToddAO 70mm! (As a reminder, friends/family/or neighbors first get together for a pot luck dinner, and then come to Cinestudio for an awesome appreciation of spirituality in all of its many expressions.) Director/cinematographer Ron Fricke traveled six continents and 24 countries to capture these mesmerizing images of life on earth, including chanting Buddhist monks, Jews praying at the Wailing Wall, African tribal dancers, and the ecstatic trance of Sufi whirling Dervishes. He also shows the destructive side of humanity in places like Auschwitz and the smoking oil fields of Kuwait. If you have never seen Baraka in 70mm, you are in for what Ron Fricke calls “a journey of rediscovery that plunges into nature, into history, into the human spirit and finally into the realm of the infinite.” (Fine for most children over 10). 108 min.
