(Russia, 2016) General Director: Vladimir Urin. Choreographer: Jean-Christophe Maillot. Principal dancers: Kristina Kretova, Denis Savin, Anastasia Stashkevich, Alexander Volchkov.

Balletomanes and lovers of Russian culture, we hear you! Shakespeare’s witty war between the sexes, the more playful side of Shostakovich’s music, and the powerful grace of the dancers of the Bolshoi Ballet return for a welcome encore of a brilliant live performance! Baptista is a wealthy merchant with two daughters: The younger Bianca who is as docile as she is beautiful; and the wild force of nature that is Katharina. Since by custom Katharina must be the first to marry, is there a man – or monster – capable of winning her rebellious heart? Petruchio, at least, is willing to give it a try.
“A slinky, sexy, sardonic take on the Bard’s prickly comedy. And a liberal squeeze of lemon which demonstrates that this company is not content to rest on its imperial laurels, but can produce tangy new work!” Mark Pullinger, Bachtrack. 125 min, with one intermission.
