(US, 2016) Directed, written by Mike Birbiglia. Cast: Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Mike Birbiglia, Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher, Chris Gethard, Richard Masur, Sondra James, Richard Kline, Maggie Kemper.

What happens to the ‘we’re all in this together’ camaraderie when one member of a troupe of six improv comedians finally grasps the brass ring, clinching a gig with a Saturday Night Live – type show in New York City? It’s funny, but it isn’t very pretty: some do their best to befriend celebrities like Lena Dunham and Ben Stiller, some break up with longtime partners, and more than one allows that question in the back of their minds (‘What am I doing with my life?’) move front and center. The second film by writer/director/actor Mike Birbiglia (sleeper hit Sleepwalk With Me), finds humor, panic, and affection in a knowing picture of comedians trying to make it in the Big Apple. 92 min.
“stands as the best, most revealing film about comedy people, and one of the best about artistic collaboration.” Alan Scherstuhl, Village Voice.
