(US, 2015) Directed by Bryan Carberry and Clay Tweel. With: Shannon Whisnant, John Wood.

If Twitter, Facebook and old school word of mouth are to be believed, Finders Keepers was the must see movie of the Sundance Film Festival (and a New York Times critics’ pick)! Why is this remarkable? Perhaps because is it an kickstarter-funded documentary set in rural North Carolina, about a custody battle of a mummified leg.
It starts as Shannon A. Whisnant discovers a human leg in the grill he bought at auction, and amputee John Wood wants it back. The feud kicks off as Whisnant, who sees it as a tourist attraction, claims “He is its birth owner but I still feel I own it.” Wood, on the other hand, admits he went through a drug phase when he left his leg in the smoke house and forgot about it. 84 min.

“What starts out as a freak show ends up a poignant tale of tragedy, redemption, and the boon of taxidermy.” Peter Keough, Boston Globe.
