(Italy, 2016) Directed by Edoardo De Angelis. Screenplay by De Angelis, Nicola Guaglianone, Barbara Petronio. Cast: Angela Fontana, Marianna Fontana, Antonia Truppo, Massimiliano Rossi, Tony Laudadio.

Italian cinema is enjoying a burst of creativity, with films from Gomorrah to The Great Beauty to Il Divo. Indivisible joins the list as a mysterious fable about conjoined twins who support their family – and local church – by making appearances at local events, and singing. When a local doctor tells them that they can be separated with a simple operation, their desire for freedom comes up against the needs of their family. Twins (not conjoined) Angela and Marianna Fontana are superb as sisters whose dream of separation draws on the ambivalence of young people for independence. 100 min.
“Shot with a dreamy fabulism that merges the gorgeous and the grotesque, Indivisible draws on a rich vein of Italian cinematic history to deliver an adventurous ode to freedom and sisterhood. “ Jeanette Catsoulis, New York Times.
