(US, ) Director: Karen Thorsen. With: James Baldwin

The Trinity College Chapel Community presents a free screening of this award-winning, recently restored film, with director Karen Thorsen present!

An emotional portrait, a social critique, and a passionate plea for human equality, this film is a vèritè feast. Without narration, author and civil rights activist Baldwin tells his own story: exploring what it means to be born black, impoverished, gay and gifted – in a world that has yet to understand that, as he wrote, “all men are brothers. That’s the bottom line.”

Karen Thorsen began the project when Baldwin was still alive, working with documentary legend Albert Maysles. When Baldwin died, Maysles passed the directing torch to Karen; the film was made in collaboration with Co-Producers William Miles and Douglas Dempsey. Karen will introduce the film and take part in a panel discussion after the screening. Do not miss this opportunity to see the film at Cinestudio and hear from the filmmaker! 86 min.

This event is free and open to the public.
