(2017, Switzerland/France) Director: Frédéric Mermoud. Writers: Mermoud and Antonin Martin-Hilbert, from the novel by Tatiana de Rosnay.
Cast: Emmanuelle Devos, Nathalie Baye, David Clavel, Olivier Chantreau.

Cinestudio presents the Hartford Premiere of Moka, an elegant and thrilling cat and mouse game between (a righteous) predator and her prey. The film opens as a woman (Emmanuelle Devos of The Beat That My Heart Skipped) whose grown son was killed in a hit and run accident, is released from a sanatorium. Believing that the police have not followed up on the lead of a mocha-colored Mercedes, Devos hires a private detective and tracks its owners – a brassy older beautician (Nathalie Baye of The Return of Martin Guerre) and her fitness-instructor lover – to the spa town of Evian. The older woman ingratiates herself with the couple in hope of finding the truth. Moka is a battle of nerves played with panache by two iconic actresses, appearing together for the first time. “A psychological thriller that could’ve been written by Patricia Highsmith…Baye and Devos are both impressive!” – Locarno Film Festival program.
