(2017) Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Stephen McHattie, Kristen Wiig.

For an actor who could easily coast from one romantic comedy or action movie to another, Jennifer Lawrence deserves kudos for tossing an assortment of quirky films, from Winter’s Bone to Joy to mother! into the mix. Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream), her newest movie is a wild ride: a hallucinatory metaphor laced with Aronofsky’s trademark black humor. Lawrence plays an ordinary suburban woman (or Earth or the original Eve) whose main interest seems to be decorating the fancy country home she shares with her older husband, a poet (Javier Bardem). But chaos and inexplicable terror enter her home with the arrival of a menacing Ed Harris, a boozy Michelle Pfeiffer, and two epically battling brothers (Brian and Domnhall Gleeson). 120 min.
“The house itself may heave and rumble but this is the nightmare of a haunted marriage, with the threatened male ego as its rampaging ghost.” Guy Lodge, Vanity Fair.
