(2017, Israel-US) Written and directed by Joseph Cedar. Cast: Richard Gere, Lior Ashkenazi, Michael Sheen, Steve Buscemi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Hank Azaria.

Some years beyond his success as a brainy sex symbol, Richard Gere proves once and for all he’s got some major acting chops. Gere is Norman, an aging Jewish New Yorker who seems to know everyone, using his connections to inch closer to real power and influence. Doling out favors from getting someone’s kid into Harvard or buying an Israeli politician an expensive pair of shoes, Norman also expects favors in return – for example, when the politician (Lior Ashkenazi) is swept to power and becomes Prime Minister… With a witty script by Israeli director Joseph Cedar (whose film Footnote won the Best Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival), Norman is the story of the ultimate schmoozer, who never quite lives up to the machinations in his own mind. “Gere has never been better…a marvel of wit and off kilter humanity.” – A. O. Scott. ✔A New York Times Critics Pick. 118 min.
