(UK, 2017) Director: Michael Longhurst. Stage play by Peter Shaffer. Cast: Lucien Msamati, David Gillen, Tom Edden.

Lucian Msamati (Luther, Game of Thrones, NT Live: The Comedy of Errors) plays the iconic role of Antonio Salieri in Peter Shaffer’s iconic play, broadcast live from the National Theatre! An uncouth young prodigy named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Adam Gillen) arrives in Vienna, the music capital of the world. Awestruck by his genius, mediocre court composer Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy his name. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music, and ultimately, with the unfairness of his God. Winning multiple Olivier Awards when it had its premiere at the National Theatre in 1979, Amadeus was also adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. The live orchestral accompaniment will be provided by Southbank Sinfonia.
“A thrillingly fresh and imaginative revival. Six stars!” Paul Taylor, the Independent.
