National Theatre Live presents a special encore of The Audience, starring the ever-fantastic Helen Mirren in her role of Queen Elizabeth II, in a the play by Peter Morgan. While it is known that for 60 years Queen Elizabeth has met in private with each of Britain’s prime ministers, whatever was said in those meetings has remains secret. Playwright Peter Morgan imagines a series of pivotal conversations with the likes of Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron, that range from the confessional to the explosive, while giving Mirren an opportunity to portray the emotions of a woman who finds herself changed by events and time itself. 180 min.

“Helen Mirren gives a faultless performance that transcends mere impersonation to endow the monarch with a sense of inner life and a quasi-Shakespearean aura of solitude.” Michael Billington, The Guardian UK.
