(Japan, 1999) Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki; English adaptation by Neil Gaiman. Score by Joe Hisaishi. With the voices of: Gillian Anderson, Billy Crudup, Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Billy Bob Thornton.

Our continuing series of Moonlight Movies on Friday nights at 10:00 pm for our crepuscular crowd of students, and those who avoid the light of the sun continues, with one of the very best films by anime legend Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Friend Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service). A malevolent wild boar – and an encroaching mining operation – attacks the beauty of an unspoiled forest in Japan. Fighting for the harmonious ecosystem they call home are a brave band of woodland creatures, mysterious plants, ancient spirits, a young Prince, and a wild girl (Princess Mononoke) who was raised by spirit-wolves.
“A great achievement, a wonderful ex- perience, and one of the best lms of any year.” – Roger Ebert.
