(US, 2015) Directed and edited by Sean Baker. Screenplay by Sean Baker and Chris Bergoch.
Cast: Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, Mickey O’Hagan, James Ransone, Karren Karagulian.

Shot on an iPhone 5 tricked out with special lenses, Tangerine is the real deal: an indie film that challenges – in every possible way – the conventions of Hollywood. It’s Christmas Eve, and a transgender prostitute named Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) has just been released from jail. With her best friend Alexandra (Mya Taylor) by her side, Sin-Dee searches the low-rent back streets of Hollywood for her man, an elusive pimp played by James Ransone (of The Wire). Funny, raucous and real, Sin-Dee and Alexandra’s adventures celebrate friendship, the diversity that is Los Angeles, and the freedom of choosing your own identity. 87 min.

“Tangerine is all about possibility, and about becoming. Trans or not, we’re all becoming, every day.” – Stephanie Zacharek, Village Voice.
