(Various countries, 2016) Directors: Robert Valley, Theodore Ushev, Alan Barillaro, Patrick Osborne, Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj, Alicja Jasina, Michaël Dudok de Wit & more.

Oscar®-nominated shorts (plus a few more) return to Cinestudio, the home of animation in Hartford! To name just a few: Canada’s Blind Vaysha, the story of a woman with one eye that can only see into the future, while the other sees into the past; France’s Asteria, that follows two astronauts racing to claim a newly discovered planet for humans; and the US’ Oscar®-winner Piper, which uses new techniques to realistically capture every feather of a irresistible young sandpiper that is afraid of the water. This program of shorts is fine for kids, except for the final cartoon (Pear Cider and Cigarettes), which will be preceded by a warning for parents. “Animation is one way to liberate people from their circumstantial gravity, and to give them mental freedom.” – artist Cai Guo-Qiang 87 min.
