Is everyone, when given a position of complete authority, capable of cruelty and
abuse? This is the question that obsessed Stanford University professor Philip Zimbardo, when he devised a notorious experiment in 1971 that has been studied (and criticized) ever since. In a fascinating new film, we watch as a group of 24 students is split into prisoners and prison guards, to be left on their own for two weeks in a make-believe prison. But after only six days, the test descends into alienation, cruelty and humiliation, raising questions on everything from the ethics of psychological experimentation, to the nightmare of Abu Ghraib. 120 min.

“A riveting re-enaction of the still-notorious study. The young cast is electrifying!” – Rafer Guzman, N.Y. Newsday.
