(Albania, 1977). Director: Xhanfise Keko. Screenplay by Nasho Jorgaqi.
Cast: Herion Mustafaraj, Zehrudin Dokle, Flurans Ilia, Genc Mosho, Sotiraq Cili.

Don’t miss a rare chance to see the U.S. restoration premiere of a film directed by Albania’s best-known female director, Xhanfise Keko. When the Nazis occupy an Albanian village during World War II, Tomka and his gang are furious – especially when the Germans set up camp on their soccer field. The local partisans recruit the children as spies, and help to set an ambush. Keko’s classic is a boys’ adventure yarn, in a style as raw and authentic as the Italian neo-realists. 78 min.
Participating in a Q and A after the film will be Flurans Ilia (one of the original child actors), and Regina Longo, Director of the Albanian Cinema Project.

“[This restoration] is the first chance to look at moving images from a society that was closed off from the rest of the world for decades” – US/Albanian filmmaker Thomas Logoreci.

Admission is $14, under 12 free, with proceeds going to The Albanian Cinema Project.
