(US, 2017) Directed by Patty Jenkins. Screenplay by Allan Heinberg, based on DC’s Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston. Cast: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Said Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, Eugene Brave Rock, Lucy Davis.

When is a superhero movie more than just another superhero movie? When it is the cultural touchstone of Wonder Woman, the first (solo) female superhero on screen. No surprise, then, that courage and power of this Amazonian warrior (Gal Gadot) has lit up twitter with women reacting with tears of gratification. Wear your capes proudly, as Wonder Woman leaves her idyllic childhood on a hidden Greek island after a World War I pilot (Chris Pine) crashes on the beach, pursued by German soldiers. She is ready for action, though there is plenty of humor, camaraderie and even romance to lighten the way. Don’t miss it on Cinestudio’s big screen! “Her sacred duty is to bring peace to the world…to help out when needed and be respected for her abilities. No wonder she encounters so much resistance!” A.O. Scott, New York Times. 141 min.
